How to Unbrick, Unroot and Fix heating problem on Micromax A89 (3-in-1 Guide)

Once upon a time, we had covered the rooting and clockworkmod flashing procedures for Micromax A89 Ninja. Since then, we have seen the launch of a flurry of  new devices from Micromax. But thanks to the Almighty, Micromax remembered that they had launched a device called the Micromax A89 and listening to their customer's complaints, released a silent but official update for the handset. Though the newer devices would have come with the updated rom and thus no heating problem, those who had bought the device earlier were left to suffer. But as long as the developer community is alive and kicking, such biasing can't occur, can it? In this guide, we shall show you how you can solve your Micromax A89's heating problem. The steps followed in this very guide can also help you unbrick your phone in case one of your mischievous actions rendered you a useless brick.

Also, as the file you are flashing is official, this won't void your manufacturer warranty. In fact, it will restore your warranty in case you have lost it by rooting it.

Changes in Stock ROM v3:

Changes over Stock ROM v2:
  • Removed M! Store

Changes over Stock ROM v1:

  • Fixed Over heating issues.
  • Fixed Charging Cutoff
As you can see, the only difference in Stock ROM v2 and Stock ROM v3 is the absence of M! Store in the latter. I don't think that would be reason enough to do all the work involved in the updating below.

So, proceed ahead only if you have a bricked device or if you want to unroot it or your device is still on stock rom v1.
How to know which version of Stock ROM you are running:
To check which version of Stock ROM your device is currently running, go to Settings > About Phone and then look at Build Number. If the build number written there is:
  1. LWDEB01.1.2_MD10
Then your A89 is running Stock ROM v3
  2. LWDEB01.1.1_MD10
Then your A89 is running Stock ROM v2
Else, your device is still stuck on Stock ROM v1 and you should follow this guide.

How to Flash Stock ROM v3 on Micromax A89 Ninja:

  • Download and install USB and VCOM drivers for your Micromax A89 on your PC. You can skip this step if you are sure that you have already installed drivers for your device.
  • Download the LWDEB01.1.0.1.2T12A0308_MD10.zip file. Extract this file anywhere you like.
  • Download the SP Flash tools. This tool is required to flash mediatek devices. Extract and run SP Flash Tool.
  • In SP Flash tool, click the Scatter-Loading button. This will open a window where you have to locate the scatter loading file for your device. This file can be found in the rom folder you extracted in step 2 and is named something like MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt
  • Press the Download button in the Flash tool. It is present next to Format and Firmware > Upgrade buttons.
  • Switch off your phone and pull out its battery. After a while, place the battery back in and connect your device to the computer in the same state.
  • After a while, yellow progress bar will appear on your screen indicating that the process has been initiated. When the progress bar fills to 100%, then a green circle will appear on top of the SP Flash Tool window with the message "Download OK". This implies that the flashing process was successful.
  • Disconnect your phone and reboot it.
  • Go to Settings > About Phone and check that the Build Number is now LWDEB01.1.2_MD10
Note: If you wanted to restore your warranty, but had installed clockworkmod recovery on your A89 in addition to rooting it, see this guide to install stock recovery. Follow the exact same steps as mentioned in that guide but flash this file instead of the one mentioned there.

In case you had a rooted device and want to root it once again, here is the rooting guide for Micromax A89, that will still work equally well.
