Exclusive: 2 Methods to Root Xolo Play T1000 in 7 easy steps

Xolo Play T1000 has emerged as a serious competitor to the Canvas 4 smartphone and is gaining some serious love from people looking to buy a phone in that price range. The phone packs a premium look along with some powerful specs under its hood, making it a good deal for those who don’t want to pay extra money just for a better brand name. For those of you who have already bought this phone or are looking forward to it, here is a simple rooting guide that will let you root your phone in just 8 steps. We can promise you one thing, you won’t find a guide as simple and explained as ours. At least if it’s not copied later on.

The 2 methods we shall be posting here are substantially different from each other. If you use the unofficial method (Method 1) to root your phone, you can unroot your phone later on and restore Xolo Play's warranty. This process is, though, comparatively more difficult than the official method (Method 2). But Lava will know that you have rooted your phone and you can bid your warranty a goodbye for ever. If you just can't get the first method to work and are really desperate to root your phone, only then follow the second method.

Before you proceed, here are the various things that you must give a read:
  • Rooting any Android device will void its manufacturer warranty. In cases of some of them, unrooting restores the warranty. But in case of others having locked bootloaders (like in some HTC & Sony smartphones) or flash counter (like in some higher end Samsung smartphones), unrooting might not be able to restore warranty. Make sure that you understand the seriousness of what you might be doing to your phone by following the guide posted below.
  • If you are unsure whether rooting is worth all this risk, have a look at the perks of rooting.
  • Make sure that your Lava Xolo Play T1000 isn’t already running low on battery. While rooting Xolo Play, I bet you won’t it to die down.
  • Make sure that you have enabled USB Debugging on your Xolo Play. To do this, you should go to Settings > Developer Options and enable USB Debugging by checking the checkbox. This is required so that your computer is able to communicate with your phone. If in future, Xolo Play gets an Android 4.2 update, you can enable USB Debugging by first going to Settings > About phone and tapping the Build Number field 7 times. This will unlock Developer Options on your phone. Now, go to Settings > Developer Options and enable USB Debugging as you would normally do.
  • This guide has been tested working on Windows XP/ Windows 7 PC. Still, it should work perfectly fine on Windows 8 too. Linux and Mac are unfortunately not supported.

Root Lava Xolo Play T1000: Method 1 (Unofficial)

  1. Install drivers for your Xolo Play using Pdanet.
  2. Connect your phone to your PC using USB Cable.
  3. Download and extract MotoChopper. This tool was meant for rooting Droid Razr HD, but works great for this phone as well. (First tested by deepaktom)
  4. In the folder in which you extracted MotoChopper, right click the file named Run.bat and select Run as administrator.
  5. You might see a popup on your phone asking you to grant permissions to Motochopper to bring about the required changes on your phone. Your device should reboot now.
  6. Once the reboot is done, go to your app drawer and spot the Super Su app. Open this app and select the option to update binary.
  7. You can optionally update Busybox using Busybox Installer by Stericson.

Root Lava Xolo Play T1000: Method 2 (Official)

  1. Make sure your Xolo Play is connected to the internet.
  2. Go to your Xolo Play's Dialer app.
  3. Dial *7813294#
  4. A warning message will appear. Tick the "I accept the terms" checkbox.
  5. You have now officially rooted Xolo Play T1000.
At any stage of time, if you need to unroot your Xolo Play, download OTA Rootkeeper from the Play Store and open that app. Then click on Temp. Unroot and your phone will be unrooted till you install a superuser app and its binaries.
