How to Root Spice MI 425 & Karbonn A9

Finally,A new post after a gap of a few days.I was busy in setting up my newly purchased
My friend bought a Spice MI 425: It's a great phone : Good resolution, superfast CPU and an awesome camera. It's a steal at anything around INR 9,500. I find it no less than my bro's HTC One V which is almost double the price (and I hate it's looks too). Though,my statements might be influenced by the fact that I own a Spice Android myself, but the MI 425 is surely a recommended buy.Karbonn A9 is almost a replica in terms of features. So, I won't talk about it much.

Update 1ICS update for Spice Mi 425 has been rolled out.
Another reason why you should prefer Mi 425 over A9.

Update 2: A simple "how to" guide for rooting your Spice Mi 425 after ICS update.

Note: This method was originally discovered by fonehacker at xda here.

If you want/need to know more about rooting, you should read this. It will give you a basic idea what rooting will help you to do. Without wasting your time, let's get rolling.

  1. Download this zip file to your PC.
  2. Power off your phone.
  3. Reboot your phone into Fastboot Mode by pressing Power button + Volume up button simultaneously.Hold them pressed till a green screen shows up confirming that you have boote into Fastboot Mode.
  4. Simply plug in the device ( still booted in the Fastboot mode ) using USB cable.
If you're on Windows 7,the drivers will install automatically.
If you're on Windows XP,the drivers are needed to be installed manually.
  5. Go to the extracted folder and open (double click) root.bat named file.
  6. When the flashing recovery process is done, disconnect the device, open the back cover and pull out the battery.
  7. Reboot into recovery mode by pressing Volume Up + Power Button. You will be greeted first by a green scree which will then by replaced by a red one.
  8. When you're on the red screen, press home button, which is the first soft button on both phones, the Karbonn A9 and Spice MI 425.

That's it if you just want root. But if you really want to play around with your device, you should consider following the below steps too which will set up ADB for you to use in the future.
  9. Reboot and connect the phone to the PC.
  10. Go to Device Manager (Search for device manager in the start menu) and locate your device there.
  11. Right click on your device and select properties.
  12. Go to the driver tab and from there install the drivers manually from the extracted folder.
  13. That's it. You're a Genius !!!
I shall try to upload a video tutorial soon if I get a hands on with this device. BTW,above method is tested working on the MI 425 by me and on both the phones by several others.

P.S. Wondering why both phones get rooted by the same method or why both of them have similar looking soft keys? It's because both are rebranded K-Touch phones,a chinese company. Spice MI 425 is originally K-Touch W688 while A9 is rebranded K-touch W680.I shall be uploading a video tutorial soon if possible.

Will be back with a new post as soon as I get an interesting topic to write upon.
If you faced any problems during the process, just take out a few seconds to post a comment below. I would love to help you.
