Watch live TV for free on Android with Zenga TV

An intro to Zenga TV:

Zenga TV is one of the most downloaded entertainment apps for Android platform in India. And there are a few good reasons backing this fact. Be it the ability to stream live TV on your device, which will work even if you have access to just 2G internet (All of us know how slow 2G is, and to allow live streaming at that speed  is an astonishing feat), or the freedom to choose from a wide array of channels ranging from general entertainment to news and so on. For those who haven't heard about Zenga TV, Zenga has collaborated several times with Nokia, Micromax and several other companies and this app comes pre-installed on many devices.

The Android App at a glance:

Coming back to the app, you have an option to select the quality depending on your network speed: 2G, 3G or Wi-Fi. The video quality is quite bearable in 2G speed, while in 3G quality, it looks much like a Standard Definition video. I don't think I need to explain HD quality, this option should be chosen if you are connected to a wi-fi network. The app allows you to watch movies and it has a long list to select from, though the available selections are not the latest, but the sheer number of choices just blew us away. The app allows you to watch 60 channels at present. Let's list down some of them:

  • General Entertainment: Colors, E24, NDTV Good Times, Sahara Filmy, Firangi, Sahara One, zOOm, DD Lok Sabha (lol), UTV Bindass
  • News Channels: Aaj Tak, Tez, NDTV 24X7, NDTV India, DD News, India TV, Times Now, ET Now
  • Music Channels: 9XM, 9X Tashan, 9X Jalwa, Raj Music, MTV, UTV Bindass
  • Kids Channels: Cartoon Network, POGO
An icing on the cake is the fact that DD National is also on the list, which allows all cricket fanatics to watch live cricket matches while on the go. If the match is not being broadcasted on DD National, the developers are quick enough to update the app with a link to the live streaming of the ongoing series, just as in case of the recently finished India vs Sri Lanka series. Another plus point of this app is that all the channels included are WORKING. Any similar app present on the play store can't boast of this. Did I mention before that it's free? No monthly subscription fees, nothing at all.
The only thing I didn't like in the app was it's UI. Although it looks nice, but still it's quite buggy while using. For example, when swiping from one screen to another, I more often than not, ended up selecting something else I didn't intend to.
4.5 stars

My review: Very Good, Must Have.

Download Links:

  • If you have an Android device, download the latest version from play store, or the current latest version at the time of writing the post directly from here.
  • If you're still stuck on one of those old Symbian powered phones, download the symbian version here.
  • If your phone neither runs on  Android, nor on Symbian, then open m.zengatv.com from your mobile's browser and click on any channel's icon, if your mobile supports streaming video content, then you should have no problems. Android and Symbian users can also watch TV without downloading the application by visiting the above site.

Note: Be aware of the fact that video streaming is a data intensive activity and you might end up losing your balance. So, make sure to constantly check your data balance if you're not on an unlimited data pack. I have personally used and reviewed just the Android Application. User experience might differ on the web and symbian version.
As usual, drop your comments below for feedback about this app or if you are facing any problems using the app. Have a nice day.
