Micromax A210 Canvas 4 launched for INR 18k; Lacks the punch in hardware front

So, the buzz is finally over. Micromax has officially launched the Canvas 4, unveiling all the specifications and the price point. If you are weak at heart and were expecting too much from this phone, stay away (we warned you earlier too, that this phone might not pack all that you are expecting here and here).
The reason for the high expectancies was obvious: Canvas series has took Micromax to new heights and Micromax, with every new addition to the Canvas series, has made the next iteration considerably better than its predecessor. Take for instance, the differences between Canvas vs Canvas 2 or Canvas 2 and Canvas HD. That’s all about the disappointment people are facing which is imminent from the facebook fan page.

Micromax A210 Canvas 4 Features:

  • Blow air in the mic of the phone to unlock it
  • Vertical panorama mode allows you to shoot pictures of very tall objects (Eiffel Tower?)
  • Floating video player
  • Front camera keeps tracking your eyes and pauses video when you look away. A liftoff from the Galaxy S4.
  • Swipe gestures in Video player to increase brightness and volume (like in MX player)
  • Floating browser that can be pinned to the screen while doing anything else
  • Bringing Canvas 4 close to the ears when a number is on the dialer screen will dial the number (This feature was introduced in the Galaxy Note II and S3)
  • Flip the phone to silence it (known as etiquette mode on some older phones)
  • Flip the phone during  a call to put it on loudspeaker
  • Pre-loaded apps like MusicHub, Hike Messaging, Opera Mini and Opera Mini
  • Anti-theft with M! Power app allows remote wiping and SIM block features

In a nutshell, the software customizations made by Micromax seem useful (though not innovative), but given what was being expected out of the device, I am not sure how many of the 11 thousand odd people who pre-booked the device would actually buy the phone. See Micromax's presentation of Canvas 4 here (if you have a slow connection) or here (if you're having a fast connection).

We knew it already!

We had stated that the Canvas 4 looks to be a clone of the Wiko Heaven Stairway by the looks of the device in the pics posted by Mmx on Facebook. And that comes out to be true with all the features drastically similar to its French counterpart. About the pricing, in the article about Karbonn S9 Titanium launch, we speculated that given that the Canvas 4 would come out with almost similar specs, we expect it to be in the 17-22k.

Droidiser Recommends: :Should you buy it or not?

Wait for a month of so. With upcoming competition from phones like Sony Xperia C and Xolo Play, Micromax will be forced to drop the price a bit. THis phone would be a good buy at about 15-16k but 18k is a bit too high.
