How to root Micromax A89

Micromax A89 is a superb value for money handset from the house of Micromax. A dual core processor for INR 6,500 was unimaginable a year back. But it has been made possible by Indian manufacturers and cheap processors by Mediatek. The phone has a 480x800 resolution 4" capacitive screen. The development of this phone has been rather dull, there's not even any development thread for this phone anywhere on the net yet. Looks like I have to take the initiative again, though I don't own the device. So, here is the separate forum for Micromax A89 on Droidiser Forums. You should also jump in to kick start some development. This article will cover the rooting procedure for Micromax A89, which is no different than other ICS android devices, and the Bin4ry rooting tool will easily root this one too! So, wear your seat belts and get ready for the rooting journey of the Micromax A89.

Note: You might also want to install clockworkmod recovery or twrp recovery on your A89 for added benefits.

Disclaimer: Rooting will void your warranty, temporarily or permanently. No one except you will be responsible if you end up causing damage to your device. If your device is facing any troubles, you can post your problems in our forum, and the community will try to help you get out of the mess.

How to Root Micromax A89:

  1. Enable USB Debugging on your phone. This can be done from Settings > Development > USB Debugging.
  2. Install drivers for your phone. This can be done using either the official drivers or using Pdanet. Pdanet is recommended to use for installing drivers.
  3. Download and extract Bin4ry's rooting tool.
  4. If you had installed the drivers using pdanet, right click on pdanet in the system tray and select exit. This is done so that Pdanet doesn't try to connect to your phone when your phone is connected using USB. If you had installed drivers the other way around, then you can happily skip this step.
  5. Connect your phone to the pc using USB cable. Your phone should be detected now.
Tip: Don't enable USB Tethering or USB Storage otherwise the phone won't be detected by the root tool.
  6. Run the RunMe.bat file in the Bin4ry's root tool folder.
  7. In the command prompt that appears on the running the batch file, make appropriate choices.
  8. The final screen of the tool will look like this.
Tip: You can use the screenshot below to see the choices I have made during various stages of the process.
The command prompt would look like this after the process is complete.
  9. Press the restore phone when you are asked to, on your phone. The phone will reboot after that.
  10. When the Command prompt shows the process is complete, disconnect your phone.
  11. Reboot your phone and check if it is rooted.
