Cyanogenmod 12S Lollipop update for Yu Yureka enters final stage before rollout

Yu Yureka was promised an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop at the time of its launch, and thanks to their partnership with Cyanogenmod, everyone was hoping for a quick update to the latest version of Android, which comes with a major UI overhaul, as well as packs the key to utilizing the 64-bit processor that the Yu Yureka is powered by.

Sensing that the Yureka users have been eagerly waiting for the Lollipop update, Yu has been trying to keep users updated about the progress they are making with the rollout. Micromax (and hence Yu) Co-founder Rahul Sharma took to the Yu Forums to announce that the Lollipop update for Yureka has finished the testing stage, and has been sent to Google for approval today (i.e. 13th April). If and when Google approves the update, the final rollout of the update shall commence. As the ball now lies in Google's court, no specific dates have yet been mentioned for the release date of the update.

Cyanogenmod has been running late in providing stable official roms for the other devices that they support too, so it's not as if only Yureka users are being forced to wait. The Lollipop update will probably be based on Android 5.0 (though we hope it's a direct jump to Android 5.1 now that it has taken so long).

Yureka users are hoping that the upcoming update solves a few software quirks that the phone has - especially issues with proximity sensors, battery drains et cetera. Apart from that, improvement in performance is also in order, as Android OS supports 64 bit processors only since Lollipop 5.0.

Yu Yureka is Yu's first smartphone, and it sells using the flash sale method on Amazon India for a price tag of Rs. 8,999. The next sale for the smartphone is on 16th April at 2 pm, if you haven't got your hands on one yet. A word about the sale - if you don't get the phone in your cart at first, join the waitlist quickly and wait for your number in the line.
